In order to bridge the gap between our Talent Search Programme and our Athlete Award Programme we have created a Talent Search Stage 4. This stage is designed to strengthen the pathway between the processes of finding an exceptionally talented athlete and their development into a successful senior. We felt that the gap was too big and that we needed to provide some incentives for those at Stage 3 to show us their talent, commitment and motivation to succeed.
There is only one of these available per sport per year for any exceptionally talented athletes that we may have identified. It has been created to avoid confusion with our other athlete award system and to ensure that there is no comeback from athletes that have been denied athylete awards or felt they should be receiving more funding.
There are also three discretionary “Potential Star Scholarships” available in case we come across more than one exceptional athlete in any one year.
This athlete award is to cover any hire of equipment, coaching fees, purchase of equipment, and some club fees that an athlete may require up to a given amount. It also entitles the athlete to any discounts available through the institute as well as being appointed a mentor and having access to nutritional support and athlete education support.
We feel there is a need for the athlete/parents to shoulder some responsibility and they will have to pay a nominal fee for the year, agree to the terms and sign of on an athlete award contract.
This is for those talented athletes that perhaps did not make the Level 1 scholarship above. They too will have to agree to the terms and sign of on an athlete award contract. They will also be appointed a mentor and will receive all of the support listed above excluding the monetary support.
This if for those athletes that have completed a Stage 3 course. They have decided to remain in the sport but did not receive an athlete award. These athletes will be monitored with a feedback form sent out to the coaches for return on a 6 monthly basis. The form will require them to give the following information:
These athletes will be made aware that they are being monitored and should they progress sufficiently could be in line for a Bronze, Silver or Gold Athlete Award depending on their progress.
