Standards 2008

In response to feedback over the past two years we have made adjustments in the programme to better utilise the professional judgement of schools and reduce the amount of paperwork involved in the process of searching for talent.

Schools now have two choices in relation to selection of athletes for the Stage 2 testing:

- Use of standards for selection. Below is a standards chart that gives an indication as to the level students are required to get in order to proceed to Stage 2 testing. Once the testing has been administered in schools the teacher in charge forwards a list of those that met the required standards to the Institute. This dramatically reduces the amount of paperwork involved and empowers the teachig staff in terms of selection.

- Completion of Stage 1 testing and results as in previous years. This involves testing all subjects over the seven basic tests outlined. Results ar then submitted to the Institute for analysis and selection of Stage 2 candidates.

Stage 1 - Standards

Please note that these figures are based on the research conducted on Stage 1 testing done over the past 2 years. Students do not have to achieve these results across the board. A positive result in one of these tests means they can be put forward for Stage 2 testing.

All standards are expressed in cms unless otherwise stated.

When looking at height and arm span please note that these figures relate to selection for rowing, beach volleyball etc and are only an indication that this may be a sport suitable for students if they also meet at least one of the other requirements.
